Father’s Day Phone Charger Station

Would you like an idea for a Father’s Day craft for your daycare group?  This year I decided to try something that might appeal to the techie Dads.  I found it on Pinterest.  We made cell phone charger stations using shampoo bottles and decorated them with a collage of torn paper.  It was an easy craft that my preschoolers enjoyed.

Collect some plastic bottles that are big enough to hold a cell phone.  I used scissors and it was a bit tricky to cut through some of the thick plastic bottles.  Use an exacto knife at this stage if you have one.

I stood my phone up beside the bottle to help me decide how high I wanted the front of the holder to be.  Then I made sure to cut the back even higher so there would be room to cut out a hole for hanging the charger station.

I cut a square hole out of the back section of the bottle (below) so it could be hung on a hook beside an electrical outlet.  The next step was to pass the plastic containers to the kids and let them take over.

The children chose some fancy paper and either cut it up into shapes or torn it into small sections.  Some children used just one colour while others made a collage of colours.

The kids used paintbrushes to spread glue over the containers and pasted on their paper pieces.

Most of the children enjoyed working with the glue and paper so much that they covered the front, sides, back, bottom and even the inside.

I’m going to suggest the Dad’s use a hook that sticks to the wall and mount it beside their electrical outlet. Presto, a useful craft they can use everyday to charge their phone.

My group used purple paint to make fingerprint grapes for their cards. Just add a green stem to turn the prints into a bunch of grapes.  Happy Father’s Day Everyone!

  1. What a great idea! Could the hole sit on the “wall wart” part of the charger as well? I’m thinking that would make it more portable too. We’ll have to try this soon! We put together a little post with some gift ideas too! thekidsperts.com/blog/2015/6/10/2015-fathers-day-gift-guide
