Easy, Fast, Healthy Snack Idea -Oatmeal Nut Butter Balls

Oatmeal balls snack.jpg

As daycare providers and people who feed small children on a regular basis, isn’t it great when you find a meal or snack that everyone enjoys?  I’ve made a few varieties of these nut butter balls and they have been a hit.

I’ve brought them to playgroups/ homeschool get-togethers and the children AND adults all like them.  Plus, you can make them super healthy or super sweet depending on your taste.  You could also substitute WowButter, which is a peanut butter replacement that is peanut free and tree nut free.  We have a nut allergy in our extended family and my kids (and myself) can’t taste the difference of WowButter.

They pack really well for outings and are great for little hands to hold.  I also love a no-bake item because this is the type of baking my little ones can make with me.  You can also get interrupted repeatedly while preparing them and they always turn out! 🙂

I’ve given you options in the ingredients because I use what I have in the cupboard.

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup of nut butter (almond, peanut, sunflower seed)
  • 1/3 cup honey, agave nectar, maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips or raisins or dates or sunflower seeds or pumpkin seeds or shredded coconut
  • 1/2 cup ground flax seed (optional)
  • 1 tsp vanilla (optional)

Mix everything together in a bowl. Form a scoop of the mixture into a small ball. If it’s not sticking together, add more honey or nut butter.  I lay them out on a cookie sheet and then put them into the fridge for an hour to let them set.

This recipe will make about 20 balls depending on the size.  You can store them in an airtight container in the fridge for a few days.

Happy Snacking!
