These simple poems will be a hit with your small children. Cut out some leaves from construction paper for both activities in the four colours mentioned below.
For the first poem, ‘Leaves are Falling All Around’, you can scatter the leaves to the floor as you say the poem or hide them in the room for a leaf hunt. If it is a nice day, you could also go outside with your daycare children and use real leaves.
Leaves Are Falling All Around
Leaves are falling all around,
Red, Yellow, Orange, and Brown.
Twirling, swirling to the ground,
Look how many leaves I’ve found!
original author -Jan Trautman
The second poem/song is called “Autumn Leaves” and the children in your care might enjoy scattering a handful of leaves as you sing. Once all the leaves have been scattered you can rake them up or sort them into piles according to their colour.
